Please remember that white muscians were a part of the STAX recording group, too — e.g., Steve Cropper co-wrote some of those giant hits with Wilson Pickett and Otis Redding. They were backgroud musicians for STAX and they were members of Booker T and the MGs, The Bar-Keys, etc. Musicians are brothers & sisters. LOL

Funky Broadway is a song originally recorded by Dyke & the Blazers in 1967 but made into a hit by Wilson Pickett that same year. In fact, the song reached #1 on the Hot Soul Singles chart and #8 on the Hot 100 chart. The song is notable as being the first charted single with the word “Funky” in the title as well as being prototypical funk music itself.

Yeh, it’s wicked all right. But if you want a really raw & gritty version, listen to Dyke & The Blazers’ original.

Seems like Wilson had a very good time here.
Notice that when the women came up to him (starting 3:29) his tie disappeared. I wonder who is the lucky owner of Wilson Picketts’ tie ???
