Really? She was actually nominated for a Tony for her performance as Mimi.

Yeah, I found that out like 2 hours after I posted this….I still think hes more fun in the movie….he’s pretty good though. I saw this on the traveling tour and I really didn’t like the Angel there. I mean he was good, but, i thought his voice was a little too low….

don’t mean to insult anyone either but I think I think the comment was harmless and the author didn’t mean to be racist like she said. I think the only better wording is “Hispanic” but if you really don’t kno what ethnicity Mimi is then it’s a lot better than calling her a “Mexican” like others and generalizing the entire South Americans and Spain.

well yeah, im sorry if i offended you. but to be honest with you nomatter what i had put, id have had someone saying “you could have worded it better” and i didnt say it in an offensive way it was a question so i didnt think anyone would complain. what would you have preferred me to have said?
June 20th, 2009 at 12:20 am
you really could have worded it better than “colored” don’t ya think?
June 20th, 2009 at 12:20 am
This is the original cast… Wilson was the original Angel as well as Angel in the movie. =]

Yes, I think in Pro shows it matters because thats what the characters call for. But in community and school shows, I dont think it matters.
June 20th, 2009 at 12:20 am

June 20th, 2009 at 12:20 am

June 20th, 2009 at 12:20 am

June 20th, 2009 at 12:20 am
original cast.
June 20th, 2009 at 12:20 am
yeah, thankyou for that. its not like theres any auditions going on for rent at the momet, but im trying to find somewhere lol. i thought she might have to be coloured or whatever because in “out tonight” she says about “feeling too much like home when the spanish babies cry.” so i figured she was spanish, i was wondering if it was a dead certain rule though. so, in amateur performances it doesnt really matter either way, but in pro performances it does? thankyou again xx

well im in RENT at a theatre down here in arkansas and our Mimi is white lol. I think on Broadway it was meant to be played by a coloured female. Her character is not “black” but hispanic. It also is because of the lyrics that are in one of the voice mail numbers. Mimis mom says something like “Mimi, chika…”. So it’s not like that everywhere but on Broadway it was. Jonathan wanted certain things for certain characters I guess. Hope that helped

it’s the same guy
June 20th, 2009 at 12:20 am
i really really dont mean to be racist or offend anyone in any way, but does mimi always have to be coloured? im only asking because i would really like to play mimi, i love her character and all of the songs she sings, but im white, and ive never seen a white girl play mimi before. do think this matters? xxx

i saw the musical first,
and i think daphenes better
rent is based on a musical called la boheme and mimi there is a girl with tuberculosis, young, and doesnt really know who she is
after all, rodolfo falls in love with her cold small hands and her innocence
just like mimi in rent, no 19 year old girl actually wants to be a stripper and drug addict, shes lost and needs guidence, roger gives her that
June 20th, 2009 at 12:20 am
i was one years old
June 20th, 2009 at 12:20 am
I like the Angel in the movie better, he’s more fun.
